Liga 1 2024/2025 Result: Slim Victory of Persebaya over PSIS

Persebaya Surabaya secured a win over PSIS Semarang through a winning goal by Flavio Silva with a score of 1-0. The match was held at the Kapten I Wayan Dipta Stadium in Gianyar on Saturday afternoon (2/11/2024) WITA. PSIS started aggressively from the first minute by pressing high and pushing Persebaya's defense very aggressively.

However, after an opening frenetic 10 minutes of play, Persebaya found their feet and started turning the tables on PSIS as the attacking trio of M. Rashid, Bruno Moreira, and Flavio Silva became handfuls as they tested PSIS's limit time and again.

In the 17 minute, Persebaya almost took the lead when Rivera broke free from an offside trap and found himself one-on-one against the goalkeeper. His shot went wide, though, to let PSIS off the hook. In the 30 minute, a powerful strike for PSIS goalkeeper Syahrul Trisna was forced to make a sharp save against a powerful strike by Rizki Dwi.

PSIS’s defense, which had held strong through much of the first half, finally cracked just before halftime. In the dying moments of the first half, Francisco Rivera delivered a perfectly timed pass to Flavio Silva, who wasted no time sending the ball past Syahrul Trisna and into the net, putting Persebaya up 1-0.

Down 2-0 at halftime, PSIS intensified their struggle for a comeback in the second half. Gali Freitas managed to break into Persebaya's penalty area alone in the 51st minute and won PSIS a corner. They failed to capitalize on that. The attacking spirit of Freitas did not stop there as he released an enthusiastic shot from outside the box minutes later. However, Persebaya goalkeeper Andhika Ramadhani produced an excellent save to deny the try.

PSIS came tantalizingly close to equalizing in the 55th minute, as Septian David Maulana’s header from close range landed straight into the hands of Andhika. Ramadhani proved himself a brick wall yet again in the 60th minute, blocking another attempt from Freitas, who was becoming a persistent thorn in Persebaya’s side.

Despite the relentless push from PSIS, the Persebaya defense, marshaled by the excellent Andhika Ramadhani, held firm. Probably the best chance for PSIS came in the 66th minute when Boubakary Diarra found himself free inside the penalty box. His effort amazingly sailed over the bar to the chagrin of the crowd.

Indeed, with the final blow of the whistle, Persebaya won 1-0, which was also the fourth defeat running for PSIS. The defeat dropped PSIS to 15th position in Liga 1 with just seven points, while Persebaya maintained pole position with 21 points from 10 matches, one point ahead of second-placed Persib Bandung.

It had been a thrilling match marred by missed chances and narrow escapes; this victory now cements Persebaya as one of the strong title contenders, while PSIS does really needs to regroup and again head into focus to climb out of their slump.
