 ASEAN Futsal Championship 2024

Following Indonesia's victory over Australia, the Group B standings of the 2024 ASEAN Futsal Championship have been taken to an exciting turn. The comfortable lead in the table was taken with that victory; coach Hector Souto's squad looked in excellent form and determination, powering through the tournament.

Match Recap: Indonesia’s Commanding Win Over Australia

Indonesia had clashed with Australia in the second matchday of Group B in the ASEAN Futsal Championship 2024. Played on Tuesday, 5 November 2024, in Terminal Hall, Terminal 21 Korat, Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand, Indonesia managed to record a solid 3-1.

The match saw Evan Soumilena set the tone early, scoring in the seventh minute. Romi Humandri followed up with two additional goals in the 15th and 35th minutes, sealing the win for Indonesia. This victory not only boosted Indonesia’s points to six but also secured them a spot in the semifinals, as they now have an insurmountable lead that guarantees a top-two finish in the group.

What’s Next for Indonesia?

With six points in the kitty, Indonesia will go against Myanmar in their last Group B match on Wednesday, November 6, 2024. The Garuda squad is still under pressure to emerge as winners of Group B. That way, they are likely to avoid meeting Thailand in the semifinals, being a team that is expected to emerge at the top of Group A.

Myanmar’s Position and the Battle for Semifinal Spots

Likewise, the last match Myanmar won was by a whisker at 5-4 against Cambodia. This hard-fought match gave Myanmar four points and placed it as a would-be semifinalist. But it is not yet sure of its place in the next round. Australia currently has one point, but could level with Myanmar if they beat Cambodia in the final match, especially if Myanmar loses to Indonesia. A draw in the next match will grant Myanmar safety for a semifinal place.

This now sets up an exciting showdown for the last matchday in Group B with Indonesia and Myanmar both still having something to fight for, as indeed do Australia. At the other end, bottom of the table sits Cambodia, already out after picking up no points from their opening two games.

Standings Group B

With just one final matchday remaining in the group stage, here is where each team stands:

  •  Indonesia: Played 2, Wins 2, Draws 0, Losses 0, Points 6, Goal Difference +11 (Goals: 12-1)
  •  Myanmar: 2 played, 1 win, 1 draw, 0 losses, 4 points, +1 goal difference, Goals: 8-7
  • Australia: 2 Played, 0 Won, 1 Draws, 1 Lost, Points-1, Goal Difference -2 (Goals: 4-6) 4.
  • Cambodia: Played 2, Wins 0, Draws 0, Losses 2, Points 0, Goal Difference -10 (Goals: 4-14)

Looking Ahead

Indonesia’s mission on Wednesday is clear: secure the top spot in Group B to avoid a likely matchup with Thailand, the Group A powerhouse. Meanwhile, Myanmar will be fighting to solidify their semifinal place, with Australia hoping for a win against Cambodia to keep their own hopes alive.

The last matchday in Group B promises to be thrilling as these teams give it their all. Can Indonesia maintain their perfect run and claim the group title? Will Myanmar or Australia step up to grab the second semifinal spot? Only time will tell, so stay tuned for more intense futsal action in the 2024 ASEAN Futsal Championship!
